What could very well wind up being the biggest news for head coach Chris Beard and the Texas basketball program out of the NCAA Transfer Portal arrived entering the holiday weekend. On the afternoon of May 27, Beard and his Texas staff hauled in a huge transfer portal addition in the reigning Big 12 Newcomer of the Year and former Iowa State Cyclones stud freshman guard Tyrese Hunter.

This is the second addition by way of the transfer portal for Beard and the Longhorns so far this offseason. The other portal addition for the Longhorns thus far is the former New Mexico State Aggies three-time All-WAC senior shooting guard Jabari Rice.

Who will be the next portal commitment for Texas basketball entering the summer after Tyrese Hunter?

Texas will likely need to add more depth out of the portal by the end of the summer, though. And the good news is that there are still plenty of options remaining in the portal at this point of the spring that could make a big splash right away for Beard and the Longhorns next season.

Some of the focuses that could be up next for Beard and the Longhorns out of the portal this offseason include the depth in the wing rotation and adding a true force to anchor the frontcourt unit. Texas still needs to add some length and rim protection in the frontcourt rotation and add some depth to play at the three next season.

Hunter is a huge addition for the Longhorns that immediately bolsters this team’s contender status both in the Big 12 and on the national scene.

With all of this in mind, here’s a look into the prediction of who the next portal addition could be for the Longhorns after Hunter.
