Tarique Milton, WR

The most recent skill position transfer addition for the Longhorns came in the form of the former Iowa State Cyclones elusive senior grad transfer wide receiver Tarique Milton. Texas got their fourth portal addition at the wide receiver position in Milton. But Milton will actually be the most productive wideout for the Longhorns on the roster this fall.

We’ve talked plenty about the depth that Milton will bring to the table of late for the Longhorns. But it’s also worth mentioning how valuable it will be for Sark, new wide receivers coach/passing game coordinator Brennan Marion, and the Longhorns to get a player with legitimate Big 12 experience and success under his belt like Milton in the mix.

Milton won’t be starting for the Longhorns at wideout this fall, barring injury to any of the top trio of players at the position in sophomore Xavier Worthy, redshirt sophomore Isaiah Neyor, and redshirt junior Jordan Whittington. But Milton is likely going to be the first wideout in line to get reps in the passing game behind that trio.

Whether it is Quinn Ewers or Hudson Card getting the start in Week 1 for Texas against Lousiana-Monroe, it will be nice for the quarterback to have a reliable wideout they can just dump the ball off to when needed such as Milton.

I would realistically expect Milton to get around 30-40 targets in the passing game this year, depending on how healthy the rest of the receiving corps stays.

That’s not to mention that health could also be a question mark for Milton.

But Milton should be able to get at least 30 touches this season, which should result in his best season statistically since 2019.

It will be critical to watch how Milton is able to get acclimated with the Longhorns during summer workouts. He’ll need to get his body right, likely taking off around 5-10 pounds ideally, to be ready for next season.
