As we approach the summer visit season this month, the attention is swiftly turning to the recruiting trail for second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football program. The next few weeks will see Texas host some of the most important targets of the 2023 recruiting class (and some notable targets of the 2024 class too) in Austin for official visits.

Sark and the Longhorns staff look to be preparing for what could be a red-hot run on the recruiting trail this summer, mainly for the 2023 class. Texas could also be building something special for the 2024 class in the next few months too.

Moreover, while Sark and the Longhorns look to mostly have their big board figured out in terms of the offers for the 2023 class, there could still be some names to watch down the line. There will always be at least a handful of new targets that pop up on the recruiting trail among de-commitments from rival schools and fast-rising prospects that surface during the fall.

Which former OU commits are worth targeting this summer for Texas football?

The Oklahoma Sooners were a good example of a rival school last fall that saw a mass exodus of commitments following a turnover in the coaching regime. There could be some potential targets that the Longhorns find for the 2023 class among the de-commits from the Sooners since last fall.

With that in mind, here’s a look at three former 2023 Oklahoma commits that Texas should target heading into the summer.

DeAndre Moore Jr., WR

This would be an interesting one for Sark, new wide receivers coach/passing game coordinator Brennan Marion, and the Longhorns to pull off.

Texas has long remained one of the top schools in the race to land a commitment from the touted four-star Los Alamitos wide receiver and former Oklahoma pledge DeAndre Moore Jr. Once Moore de-committed from the Sooners back in late January, Texas made a big push to gain some traction with him.

But the Louisville Cardinals seemingly came out of nowhere a couple of days ago to snag his commitment, which specifically came on May 31.

At the moment, Texas is still scheduled to host Moore for an official visit on June 24. It will be interesting to see if he keeps that official visit after committing to Louisville a couple of days ago.
