There’s no doubt that the top wide receiver target this summer for Sark, Marion, and the Longhorns in the 2023 class is the highly touted four-star DeSoto product Johntay Cook.

But there are a plethora of other top-tier wide receiver targets that could be worth pushing harder for on the recruiting trail for Marion and the Longhorns entering the summer. And it’s harder to find a more qualified candidate among the talented wide receivers for the Longhorns to pursue further than the elite five-star American Heritage (FL) product Brandon Inniss.

This former Oklahoma commit found a lot of traction with the Longhorns at one point under the former regime of head coach Tom Herman and wide receivers coach Andre Coleman.

The last time that Texas really maintained consistent contact, though, with Inniss was back in the spring of 2020. And the contact never really picked up with Inniss once Sark and his regime arrived on campus last offseason.

Yet, if Texas is able to haul in a commitment from the likes of the five-star running back Owens and five-star Isidore Newman quarterback Arch Manning this summer, it feels like the sky is the limit for what Sark and his staff can do on the recruiting trail this fall. That might be something that could at least appeal to Inniss.

Considering the fact that Inniss is the top-ranked wide receiver recruit in the entire country, it could be worth at least kicking on the tires with him to see his interest in visiting Austin again. Texas would be getting in the mix late here, but it’s probably worth a try.

Some of the top schools Texas would have to battle if they got in the mix for Inniss are the Alabama Crimson Tide, Ohio State Buckeyes, and USC Trojans. This wouldn’t be easy for Texas to pull off, but it wouldn’t hurt anyone to at least reach out to Inniss this summer.
