Summer transfer portal wish list for Texas basketball
The last major wave of entrants to the NCAA Transfer Portal likely just passed for head coach Chris Beard and the Texas basketball program in the midst of an offseason that is quieter than last. Granted, Texas managed to just haul in one of the best players in the transfer portal so far this offseason in the last couple of weeks.
Just last week, Beard and the Longhorns reeled in a commitment out of the transfer portal from the reigning Big 12 Newcomer of the Year and former Iowa State Cyclones stud freshman guard Tyrese Hunter.
Hunter is one of two additions for the Longhorns by way of the transfer portal ahead of the summer. The other is the former New Mexico State Aggies three-time All-WAC senior shooting guard Jabari Rice.
But it doesn’t look like Beard and the Longhorns staff are done with their work in the transfer portal so far this offseason. They still need to add some depth on the wing and at least one more big man before we can call this rotation complete ahead of next season.

With that in mind, here’s a look at the summer transfer portal wish list for the Longhorns.
Joey Baker, SG
If the Longhorns want to add some wing shooting, one of the more appealing recent entrants to the portal is the former Duke Blue Devils senior shooting guard/wing Joey Baker. After spending four seasons with legendary head coach Mike Krzyzewski and the Blue Devils, Baker put his name in the transfer portal to spend likely one more season playing elsewhere.
And it feels like Texas could be a good fit here. He could get decent second-unit minutes while taking a hold of the opportunity to knock down some open shots with the likes of point guards Hunter and freshman Arterio Morris making plays around him.
Texas is likely losing a knockdown outside shooter this offseason in the former redshirt senior sharpshooting guard Jase Febres. It’s also worth noting that the Longhorns are losing another good outside shooter in the former sixth-year shooting guard/wing Andrew Jones.
