While Baker is a solid option for the Longhorns out of the transfer portal in terms of the proven outside shooters available at this point of the offseason, he’s not the only one at this moment. Another potential target that Beard and the Longhorns could find in the portal among the outside shooters that remain available is the former Montana Grizzlies junior forward Derrick Carter-Hollinger.

This 6-foot-6 and 215-pound California native is definitely one of the most capable catch-and-shoot threats available among wings/forwards in the portal right now, hitting his looks from beyond the arc at a clip well north of 40 percent. He just needs to take a higher volume of three-point attempts.

Another valuable phase of Carter-Hollinger’s game is his rebounding and gritty on-ball defending. He’s averaged around 3.5 rebounds per game and 0.8 blocks in his collegiate career thus far.

Josh Minott, F

Texas looked to originally be in on the sweepstakes to land a commitment out of the portal from the former elite five-star recruit and freshman forward Emoni Bates earlier this offseason. But that didn’t turn out to be the case.

If Beard and the Longhorns are still seeking out depth in the forward rotation at this point of the offseason, then a worthy target could be the former Memphis Tigers freshman guard Josh Minott. A former teammate of Bates’ with the Tigers and a fellow touted blue-chip recruit, Minott could be a nice addition for the Longhorns if he doesn’t wind up getting picked up in the 2022 NBA Draft.

Minott is a part of the 2022 draft class. But if he does wind up returning to the college level for one more season, then Texas should be reaching out to kick the tires on the possibility of adding him out of the portal.
