The run of upsets came to an end for head coach Mike White and unseeded Texas softball in their second game of the Women’s College World Series on the afternoon of June 4 in Oklahoma City, OK. In the fourth meeting of the season so far against the top-seeded juggernaut Oklahoma Sooners, Texas fell short.

The Sooners were able to snap the three-game winning streak of the Longhorns on the afternoon of June 4 thanks to redshirt senior Jocelyn Alo, who gave Oklahoma a game-high three runs batted in. Aho got it done for the Sooners with those three runs batted in coming courtesy of one home run and two hits in total. She also had two runs scored on the day.

Moreover, Alo was one of the reasons why it was tough for Texas’ All-American senior pitcher Hailey Dolcini to get comfortable in this game. Alo had three of Oklahoma’s 10 hits on the day, which resulted in seven runs scored.

Five of the seven runs scored for Oklahoma were earned for Dolcini in 4.1 innings of work on the mound. Dolcini also allowed six hits, one walk, and came up with just one strikeout. This was certainly a challenging afternoon on the mound for Dolcini as this was the most earned runs she’s allowed in a loss this season.

Texas also didn’t get Dolcini much run support in this game. While the Longhorns did come up with six hits as a team, that wasn’t enough to stay close to the Sooners in the end. Alyssa Washington did her best to spark the Longhorns’ bats in this one, but that just resulted in a lot of runners left on base.

Washington came up with a team-high two hits and one run batted in. But she didn’t score any runs as Washington was left on base one time and thrown out on another occasion.

Texas also got a home run from All-American senior Janae Jefferson late in this game. But that would only score one run for the Longhorns as that Jefferson home run ultimately didn’t put much of a dent in the Sooners’ lead in the seventh inning.

Following this five-run loss to the Sooners on June 4, Texas is sporting a record of 1-1 in the Women’s College World Series in OKC. Texas will now have the second matchup in OKC with the unseeded Arizona Wildcats in an elimination game on June 5.

Arizona made it to this elimination game after a loss to the seven-seed Oklahoma State Cowgirls on June 2. The winner of that Texas-Arizona game will get a matchup with either Oklahoma State or the Florida Gators in a do-or-die scenario for either team on June 6.
