The numbers in the Longhorns 2023 class at the wide receiver position have started to come into focus of late. Texas already holds a commitment from the highly touted four-star Aldine Eisenhower (TX) wide receiver Ryan Niblett. And Texas will definitely have room for the likes of the newly minted five-star DeSoto wide receiver Johntay Cook and four-star Jaquaize Pettaway in the 2023 class if they’re interested in committing to the Longhorns.

That’s why it signals that Texas is prioritizing the four-star Houston-Dekaney wide receiver Jonah Wilson heading into the summer by getting him to Austin for an unofficial visit this weekend.

It was already looking like the Longhorns were going to be short on numbers in the 2023 class at wide receiver compared to the number of blue-chip targets they were interested in. But Wilson might be a take in the 2023 class after all if this winds up being a successful official visit with Sark and Marion this weekend.

There’s a chance that Texas is just looking to see how the relationship continues to develop between Marion and Wilson. But from what we’ve heard heading into the summer on the recruiting trail, Wilson is forming a great connection with Marion and the Longhorns staff.

If the relationship between Marion and Wilson continues to develop in a very meaningful way on the trail early this summer, that could be a sign that he’s definitely going to be a take for the Longhorns 2023 class.

Some of the other schools to watch that are after Wilson that could get him on the books soon for official visits are the Houston Cougars and Arkansas Razorbacks.

If Texas does have Wilson as a take in their 2023 class right now, though, they could likely set the pace in this recruitment coming out of his unofficial visit to Austin this weekend.
