Johntay Cook, WR

This is another big-time target of the Longhorns 2023 class that many have a hunch will have a decision ready before fall camp arrives.

The highly touted five-star DeSoto wide receiver Johntay Cook is a top priority for Sark, new wide receivers coach/passing game coordinator Brennan Marion, and the Longhorns this summer. And any potential visit he takes with the Longhorns will be one where Sark and Marion can start to try and seal the deal with Cook.

Cook doesn’t currently have an official visit scheduled with Texas for this month. The schools he is set to officially visit this month are the Florida Gators, Ole Miss Rebels, Michigan State Spartans, Oregon, and Michigan Wolverines.

But none of the official visits that took place so far really set anyone apart from the rest of the field yet in the race to land a commitment this summer. And with the possibility that Cook will still take an unofficial visit with the Longhorns in the next week or so very much on the table, Texas still looks to be in a great spot in this recruitment.

Texas is still likely going to face a threat from the rival Texas A&M Aggies on the recruiting trail for Cook. But it’s hard to say that the momentum in the race to land a commitment from Cook this summer isn’t with Texas at the moment. If Texas can maintain that momentum through the end of this stint of official visits for Cook, they should be considered the favorites for him ahead of the start of fall camp.
