Texas baseball a heavy favorite in early CWS betting odds
This coming weekend, the National Collegiate Baseball Player of the Year Ivan Melendez and No. 9 Texas baseball will embark on their quest to get the first national title for this program since 2005. Texas is set to face the unseeded and upset-minded Notre Dame Fighting Irish in their first game of the College World Series in Omaha, NE, on June 17.
Melendez and the Longhorns are also pretty surprising favorites in some of the early betting odds for the College World Series.
According to WynnBet, Texas is the favorite to win the College World Series in the early betting odds. Texas is just ahead of the likes of the No. 2 Stanford Cardinal and Notre Dame in the overall moneyline for the College World Series Championship.
Behind the Longhorns, Cardinal, and Fighting Irish in the College World Series title betting odds (from top-to-bottom) are the Arkansas Razorbacks, Ole Miss Rebels, Oklahoma Sooners, Auburn Tigers, and Texas A&M Aggies.
Texas baseball and Ivan Melendez the favorite in the early betting odds to win the College World Series
It looks like Texas has a really good opportunity in Omaha this year to get their first College World Series title since 2005. With all the upsets that took place throughout regionals and super regionals thus far, a lot of the top seeds are no longer in the postseason field (i.e. No. 1 Tennessee Volunteers, No. 3 Oregon State Beavers, and No. 4 Virginia Tech Hokies).
Texas has plenty of momentum rolling in their favor right now after Melendez and the Horns’ bats continued to light up opposing pitching staff’s in the Greenville Super Regional last weekend.
Moreover, Texas will have a real pesky opponent to face in their first game of the College World Series entering the weekend in Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish just got done pulling off yet another upset to make it to Omaha when they toppled top-seeded Tennessee in the Knoxville Super Regional last weekend.
Notre Dame also defeated the Texas Tech Red Raiders and No. 16 Georgia Southern Eagles to advance through the Statesboro Regional.
If Texas is able to knock off Notre Dame on June 17, they would be set to face the winner of Texas A&M-Oklahoma in Game 6 of the College World Series on June 19. A loss to Notre Dame would pit Texas against the loser of the Texas A&M-Oklahoma matchup in Game 5 on June 19.
Texas carries a record of 47-20 (14-10 Big 12) ahead of the start of the College World Series after toppling the No. 8 East Carolina Pirates in three games in the Greenville Super Regional. The first pitch time between Texas and Notre Dame in Omaha on June 17 is set for 6 p.m. CT.
