Predicting Texas basketball’s first transfer addition of the summer
Isaiah Poor Bear-Chandler, PF
The dwindling options for the Longhorns in the transfer portal at this point offseason in terms of those players that could help bolster the frontcourt unit could be an emerging issue depending on Beard and his staff’s stance on this matter. If Beard and the Longhorns staff have a plan as to how to move forward with their current frontcourt unit on hand for next season, then this isn’t as much of an issue.
But if Beard and his staff are still seeking help by way of the portal to bolster the frontcourt unit ahead of next season, this could become a huge problem if they don’t act fast. That’s why the next potential transfer target up on this list makes a lot of sense for the Longhorns.
Texas could get a boost in terms of interior defensive presence and rebounding if they could add the former Omaha Mavericks and Wichita State Shockers senior big man Isaiah Poor Bear-Chandler this offseason. After spending just one season with Omaha, Chandler wound up in the portal for the second time in the last couple of years.
While Beard and the Longhorns wouldn’t be getting an immediate starter in the frontcourt unit out of Chandler, it would be a valued addition that adds some key rim protection and efficient rebounding. The long and athletic 6-foot-9 and 250-pound Chandler averaged an impressive 8.7 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per 40 minutes in his career to date.
Chandler would likely fit as a second or third unit situational big man in the frontcourt unit given the Longhorns’ current personnel. He would bring more effective rim protection and overall length to the table than the likes of Timmy Allen and Christian. And he would add another insurance policy in the frontcourt unit along with the returning senior power forward Disu.
