There is a lot to unpack at this point of the offseason in the recruitment of the highly touted four-star Langham Creek wide receiver Jaquaize Pettaway. In the last few weeks, it seems like the scope of Pettaway’s recruitment has narrowed a good bit as he set up his official visit schedule.

Some schools that were previously considered to be in the top mix for Pettaway (i.e. Alabama and the LSU Tigers) now look to be falling back a bit.

The recruitment of Pettaway is likely going to turn into a classic battle on the trail between Texas and Oklahoma. Heading into this official visit weekend for Pettaway, new head coach Brent Venables and the Sooners do look to have a slight lead over the rest of his top schools. But smart money this summer would likely bet on Texas right behind Oklahoma in this recruitment.

It is still worth noting that the official visit for Pettaway with head coach Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss Rebels last weekend looks to have gone well by most accounts.

Marion and the Longhorns do have the ability to mostly make this a two-school race to land a commitment from Pettaway for the rest of the summer, though. If Marion can continue to build this connection with Pettaway this weekend, Texas is going to make this recruitment very tight with the Sooners.

Texas is also taking advantage of the fact that Arch is on campus for his official visit this weekend to continue to build the bond between him and Pettaway. Adding commitments from those two would mean great things for the Longhorns 2023 class on the national scene.
