The seventh commit in the 2023 Texas football recruiting class arrived for second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and special teams coordinator/tight ends coach Jeff Banks this weekend in the form of the three-star Isidore Newman tight end Will Randle. This is also the second tight end commit for Texas in the 2023 recruiting class in the last week.

Sark, Banks, and the Longhorns have now landed commitments from tight ends in the last week that includes Randle and three-star Mater Dei product Spencer Shannon. The commitment from Shannon in the Longhorns 2023 class arrived specifically back on June 13.

Getting these commitments from Shannon and Randle could help provide a spark on the recruiting trail that really gets the Longhorns 2023 class off the ground for the summer. With some of the successes from these first two weekends of visits this month, you’d figure that Texas will soon catch fire on the recruiting trail.

Who’s next in the 2023 Texas football recruiting class after 3-Star TE Will Randle?

Landing a commitment from Randle could just be one of the pieces of this puzzle that falls into place on the trail ahead of what could be a big summer for the Sark and the Longhorns staff.

With that in mind, here’s a look at a prediction of who the next commit in the Longhorns 2023 class could be after Randle.

Jordan Matthews, CB

For the second time this offseason, there looks to be plenty of momentum between the Longhorns and the touted four-star Woodlawn (LA) cornerback Jordan Matthews. Texas get a few forecasts in the last few days that project Matthews’ commitment to land in their 2023 class.

Matthews is currently in the midst of his summer official visits. He’s already taken official visits this summer with the Michigan Wolverines (June 3) and Stanford Cardinal (June 18). And then, he’s got another official scheduled with the Tennessee Volunteers (June 24). It also looks like he’s working on getting officials on the books with the Longhorns and Alabama Crimson Tide.

A successful official visit with the Longhorns later this summer could be enough for cornerbacks coach Terry Joseph and this staff to begin the process of sealing the deal with Matthews. Especially if Matthews is planning on a late summer or early fall decision timeline, getting the final official visit this offseason could be huge for Texas in this recruitment.

Malik Muhammad, CB

We mentioned it over and over again in the last week, the highly touted four-star South Oak Cliff cornerback Malik Muhammad was clearly one of the most important visitors on campus for the Longhorns this weekend. Texas is looking to get another deep and talented class in the secondary, and landing a commitment from Muhammad would make a huge impact to reach this goal.

From what we’ve heard coming out of this official visit weekend for Muhammad on the Forty Acres, the Longhorns staff did about everything they possibly could to make a great impression on him and his camp. Muhammad apparently had a great official this weekend and Texas probably did enough to at least make up some of the ground they had behind any of the other top schools in the race to land a commitment from Muhammad.

For the last couple of months, it looked like Muhammad was looking to make a decision before his senior high school football season. That might still be the case, but we’ll see if there are any adjustments he makes to that timeline in the near future following this official visit to Texas.

At the moment, the only other official visit that Muhammad has on the books for this summer comes with the Texas A&M Aggies on July 29. And with the assumption that Muhammad is still planning on a late summer decision timeline, this is still a recruitment that could be dicey for the Longhorns to try and close. But we’ll see in the coming weeks how much this official visit with Texas was able to move the needle for Muhammad and his camp.

If Texas did really move the needle with Muhammad this weekend, then there’s a good chance that we could see him join this 2023 class in the next couple of months.
