The fate of No. 9 Texas baseball and head coach David Pierce for the 2022 season hangs in the balance against the in-state rival No. 5 Texas A&M Aggies in the Lone Star Showdown at the College World Series on June 19. Texas will be looking to stay alive in Omaha, NE, coming out of the weekend while handing the Aggies their 10th straight loss in the College World Series all in one swing.

Pierce and the Longhorns made their way to the loser’s bracket in the College World Series by falling short to the unseeded Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the opening round on June 17, by the final score of 7-3. That loss to the Fighting Irish took the Longhorns down a peg as they were once the odds-on favorites to win the College World Series title.

Following the loss to Notre Dame, Texas is boasting a record of 47-21 (14-10 Big 12).

Meanwhile, Texas A&M comes into this game sporting a record of 42-19 (19-11 SEC) following their 13-8 loss to the unseeded Oklahoma Sooners in the opening round of the CWS on June 17.

Here’s a look at the betting odds, TV/streaming information, and game prediction as Texas faces Texas A&M in an elimination game in the College World Series on June 19, with the first pitch time set for 1 p.m. CT.

Texas baseball vs. Texas A&M pick

Texas is likely going to have Lucas Gordon getting the call on the mound as the starter to try and keep this team alive in the postseason against the in-state rival Texas A&M. Gordon has pitched well for the Longhorns of late, despite his start against the No. 8 East Carolina Pirates in the second game of the Greenville Super Regional last weekend.

Given some of the struggles from the starting rotation of late, combined with the strength of the Texas A&M bats, Gordon will need to put his best foot forward on the mound on this day. He will at least need to be better than Pete Hansen was in his start against Notre Dame on June 17.

Texas could also use some more run support than they got in a pretty flat showing against the Fighting Irish. This offense only put up three runs on six hits in the loss to Notre Dame. They’ll need to be better in this one.

This is still a winnable game, though, for the Longhorns against the Aggies. Texas will be facing a team that has not found much success in the College World Series in the last decade or so. If Texas does get the win in this one, it would be the 10th straight loss for Texas A&M in Omaha.

It could also help the Longhorns that they’re likely to face a pitcher that had some struggles this season on the mound in Micah Dallas. Coming into this game, Dallas boasts an earned run average of 5.40. We’ll see if the Texas bats can take advantage of some of the struggles on the mound of late from Dallas and stay alive in Omaha.

Final score prediction: Texas-9, Texas A&M-7
