The most highly-anticipated official visitor for second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football program last weekend was clearly the elite five-star Isidore Newman quarterback Arch Manning.

Due to the fact that we haven’t talked about any updates in the recruitment of Arch in the last 18-24 hours, it feels like we haven’t mentioned his status in forever. Arch was the constant subject of discussion in the last few days on the Forty Acres, and with good reason.

There’s a good chance that this official visit to Texas from June 17-19 was the last he will take before arriving at a decision likely later this summer. Arch might have a decision as soon as at the Manning Passing Academy this coming weekend or as far down the road as the weeks leading up to the start of the 2022 regular season.

Yet, the prospects for Sark, quarterbacks coach AJ Milwee, and the Longhorns seem to be looking up in the Arch sweepstakes coming out of this official visit over the weekend. That was evident in a recent discussion with 247Sports national recruiting analyst Steve Wiltfong on CBS Sports HQ this week.

National recruiting gives Texas football a slight lead over Georgia for Arch Manning following the official visit

Wiltfong gave Texas the slight edge in this one over namely Georgia. It’s also noted that the Alabama Crimson Tide are still alive in this recruitment, while they do seem to have fallen behind Texas and Georgia since taking a commitment from four-star Louisiana quarterback Eli Holstein.

As close as the Manning camp keeps this sort of information regarding this recruitment, it’s hard to tell how this timeline will come together in the next few weeks. There’s a chance that we get an abrupt decision from Manning at some point in the next couple of months. We’ll have to be patient as this timeline continues to develop in the coming days and weeks.

Texas seems to hold a lot of confidence on its side at the moment. But the same could be said for Georgia after the official visit that Arch took to Athens back on June 3. At this point, we have to hang our hat on the fact that Sark, Milwee, and the Longhorns staff did about as much as they could in this recruitment and have confidence in how this recruitment finishes heading into the fall.
