The seismic news arrived for Texas football on the morning of June 23 that the elite five-star Isidore Newman quarterback and clear-cut top target of the 2023 recruiting class, Arch Manning, would be committing to head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Horns. Arch was the obvious top target that would make or break the Texas 2023 recruiting class on the national scene.

And the huge gamble that Sark, quarterbacks coach AJ Milwee, and the Longhorns made on only offering Arch among quarterback recruits in the 2023 class paid off this week. Texas got this commitment from Arch just a few days after his official visit to Austin last weekend concluded.

Arch specifically visited Texas officially from June 17-19. The other official visits he took were with the Georgia Bulldogs (June 3) and Alabama Crimson Tide (June 10). Texas was able to reel in this pledge from Arch namely over Georgia, who was figured to be the chief competition on the recruiting trail in this high-stakes battle.

Texas landing Arch now puts this 2023 class in a position to really challenge for the nation’s No. 1 class heading into the fall. One part of that could be Texas being able to flip some of the recruits they targeted for the 2023 class that are now committed elsewhere.

With that in mind, here’s a look at three blue-chip recruits that are currently committed elsewhere that the Longhorns could try and flip after landing Arch.

Ian Reed, OT

The target of the Longhorns 2023 class that I would think is the least likely for Texas to flip this summer or in the fall is the hometown four-star Vandegrift offensive tackle Ian Reed. This Austin product committed to head coach Dabo Swinney and the Clemson Tigers back on June 7 following his official visit with them on June 3.

Losing Reed does hurt in terms of the in-state offensive line recruiting for offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood and the Longhorns in the 2023 class. Reed was definitely one of the top offensive line targets for the Longhorns in state for this cycle.

But the possibility remains that Texas could kick the tires on Reed’s interest in still taking another visit to Austin this summer to see if anything has changed in his mind after Manning’s commitment. Manning is the type of quarterback that can really move the needle for other recruits to consider committing elsewhere.

We’ll see if there is any change to the status of Reed’s commitment with Clemson in the next few weeks as the summer visit season starts to wrap up around college football.
