Immediate Reaction: Arch Manning commits to Texas football
The commitment that we’ve all been waiting for came out of the blue for Texas football on the morning of June 23 with the news that five-star Isidore Newman quarterback Arch Manning gave his pledge to head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Horns. This news came seemingly out of the blue, despite a decision from Arch being expected to come to fruition at some point this summer.
This is absolutely massive for Sark, quarterbacks coach AJ Milwee, and the Longhorns to get by far the biggest target of the 2023 class in the mix. Arch was the boom-or-bust quarterback recruit for the Longhorns 2023 class, and landing this commitment is an outstanding success for this program.
Arch committed to Texas via an announcement (his first post) on his Twitter timeline on June 23. This commitment from Arch came just a few days after his official visit to Texas concluded, which specifically came back on June 17-19.
Texas football lands a seismic commitment in the 2023 class with 5-Star QB Arch Manning
Texas landed this commitment to Texas over other top schools such as the Georgia Bulldogs and Alabama Crimson Tide. Arch took official visits to Georgia (June 3) and Alabama (June 10) prior to his trip to Texas last weekend.
It was figured that Texas and Georgia were neck and neck as the top two schools in the race to land a commitment from Arch heading into the summer. And that pretty much proved to be the case as Arch looked to mostly have his decision boiled down to the Longhorns and Bulldogs.
Moreover, this commitment from Arch obviously drew a raucous reaction from the Longhorns faithful and the entire college football landscape alike.
This is the third time that Texas has landed a commitment from a perfect 1.000 rated quarterback in the 247Sports Composite rankings. The other two are the former Ohio State Buckeyes freshman transfer Quinn Ewers (who will soon be teammates with Arch) and the legendary 2005 National Champion Vince Young.
It’s pretty incredible that the Longhorns have landed every single one of the perfect-rated quarterbacks in the modern recruiting era (since the turn of the century) in the 247Sports Composite.
After landing this commitment from Arch it will be interesting to see what the shockwaves are for the Longhorns 2023 class in the next few days as another massive weekend of official visits approaches for Sark and his staff. Texas has key targets of the 2023 class such as five-star wide receiver Johntay Cook and five-star linebacker Anthony Hill set to officially visit this weekend. The impact of these types of recruitments after landing Arch could now be massive.
This commitment from Arch brings the Longhorns up to eight in the 2023 class. According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2023 Texas recruiting class now ranks at No. 19 in the nation.
