3 reasons why Arch Manning will bring Texas football ‘back’
The future of the Texas football program changed for the better under the direction of second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian this week with the commitment of the elite five-star Isidore Newman quarterback Arch Manning surfacing on June 23. Late in the morning of June 23, Arch’s commitment produced shockwaves around the college football landscape by announcing his pledge to Texas.
This commitment is obviously groundbreaking for Sark and the Longhorns 2023 class. Sark and his staff laid it all out on the line in the 2023 class by only pursuing Arch among quarterback recruits. The goal to lay the foundation in this 2023 class was to build this group around Arch. And Sark was able to get that done this week.
Texas now has the rest of the summer and the entire fall to build out this 2023 class around Arch and potentially challenge to have the top-ranked class in the nation.
More importantly, though, is the fact that Sark and Texas got a major vote of confidence from Arch and his family with this commitment. This is a signal that there is a firm belief that the Longhorns program is headed in the right direction under Sark.
How landing Arch Manning will bring Texas football “back” under Steve Sarkisian
With that in mind, here’s a look at three reasons why Arch will bring the Longhorns “back” as part of the 2023 recruiting class.
Texas will have elite quarterback talent at least for the next four or five years
One of the biggest factors of the Manning commitment that will be beneficial to the rise of the Longhorns program heading into the future is the fact that there will be top-of-the-line talent at the quarterback position for years to come. The line of quarterbacks that Texas is set to boast at least through the mid-2020s is insane now.
Texas is set to have two of the three quarterbacks in the history of recruiting rankings (since 2000) that received a perfect 1.000 rating in the same quarterback room in 2023. The combination of Quinn Ewers and Arch will give Texas likely the most talented quarterback room in the country next year.
That is the type of elite talent that Sark needs to continue bringing into the program in the future at quarterback, along with other position groups. Texas will finally be able to find a more sustained level of success on the national scene if they keep bringing in this level of elite talent as they have with Arch and Ewers.
The fruits of Sark and quarterbacks coach AJ Milwee’s labor should be seen as soon as this fall with Texas potentially starting Ewers Week 1.
