The official visitor that everyone will be watching among the skill position targets for the Longhorns 2023 class this weekend is the newly-crowned five-star DeSoto wide receiver Johntay Cook. Texas has long made Cook their top priority among wideouts in the 2023 class. And that level of priority that Texas has afforded to Cook and his camp could pay off in the very near future.

The momentum that we were all waiting for has arrived with Cook now that Manning is committed to the Longhorns 2023 class. And it’s telling that Cook scheduled his official visit to Texas right around the time that Arch gave his commitment to Sark and the Longhorns.

Between three of the major recruiting ranking services (Rivals, 247Sports, and On3), Texas has roughly a dozen forecasts in their favor to land a commitment from Cook. The 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions alone gave Texas four projections to land Cook.

It looks like the Michigan Wolverines and Texas A&M will be the biggest threats to the Longhorns in this recruitment for the rest of the summer. But if there was ever a time where the Longhorns looked like a notable favorite to land Cook, now is it.

Cook could be one of the foundational pieces in the Longhorns 2023 class when it’s all said and done. And the timing of this official, like the other recruits listed here that are visiting this weekend, seems to be about as perfect as it gets for Sark, new wide receivers coach/passing game coordinator Brennan Marion, and the Longhorns.
