Former Aggie takes shot at Texas football after landing Arch Manning
The news for Texas football that the elite five-star Isidore Newman quarterback Arch Manning committed to take his talents to the Forty Acres shook the college football landscape on June 23. And the after-effects of this commitment for Texas will continue to be felt around the college football recruiting landscape heading into the fall.
And you could see the impact Arch’s commitment to the Longhorns had on the rest of the college football landscape in the last 24 hours or so. That was evident in the reaction of the former Texas A&M Aggies starting safety Leon O’Neal Jr., who took to social media to voice his opinion on the matter on June 23.
This was also something that sucked in former Texas starting defensive back Josh Thompson, who responded to a tweet that was eventually deleted on the day of Arch’s commitment. A piece from On3 detailing this social media exchange between Thompson and O’Neal noted that the former Aggies defensive back posted “5-7”.
That’s what prompted the response from Thompson, where he quote tweeted O’Neal saying “Texas stay on yo mind huh fam?”.
Former Texas A&M S Leon O’Neal Jr. didn’t take the Arch Manning commitment to Texas football news too positively

This is just one example of the shockwaves that were sent around the college football landscape this week when Arch committed to Texas. Many did not anticipate head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns to be able to pull this one out over the likes of the Georgia Bulldogs and Alabama Crimson Tide.
And considering the fact that Texas and the Oklahoma Sooners will likely be playing in the SEC when Arch is in his early days as the starting quarterback for the Horns, this commitment really caught the attention of schools such as Texas A&M. Texas will likely face Texas A&M in the first Lone Star Showdown as conference foes with Arch as the starting quarterback.
That is just one of the many factors involved that caused this wide array of reactions from fans of other college football teams.
Arch is the eighth commitment in the Longhorns 2023 class at the moment. But there are sure to be more high-profile commitments just around the corner for Texas in the 2023 and 2024 classes as the impact of Arch’s addition continues to play out this week.
