3 Texas basketball players who could be selected in 2023 NBA Draft
By Shane Black
Arterio Morris
Arterio Morris was rated as the No. 1 point guard and No. 16 overall recruit in the class of 2022. The Dallas, Texas native is still a bit raw but has legitimate upsize to be an All-Star-caliber NBA player.
Standing at 6-foot-3, 190-pounds, Morris has the frame and the skills to be an offensive weapon in today’s NBA. He has phenomenal short-area quickness and a knack for putting the ball through the hoop when he attacks the rim.
Though I would not consider Morris a true point guard, he has the requisite skills to be a lead ball-handler. Morris excels most when he has his defender on an island and is told to go to work. He proved at Kimball he can score effectively from all three levels and does not seem to ever settle for bad shots.
With Marcus Carr and Tyrese Hunter as the likely starting backcourt for Beard in 2022/23, it will be interesting to see where Morris fits in. He certainly has the fire, work ethic, and skills that will eventually make him an NBA player.
If Morris embraces his role and turns into one of the top sixth-men in the nation, I could certainly see him hearing his name called during the 2023 NBA Draft.
