Analyzing 5 biggest official visitors for Texas football this weekend
Anthony Hill, LB
The top-rated target of the Longhorns 2023 class that will be on campus for an official visit this weekend is the elite five-star Denton-Ryan linebacker Anthony Hill. There aren’t many bigger recruits on either side of the ball which could mean the difference between the Longhorns hauling in the top 2023 class in the nation and one that barely cracks the top 10.
Granted, Texas landing a commitment from Arch earlier this week makes it a lot more realistic for this 2023 class to finish up ranked in the top five for the second cycle in a row.
This weekend is the opportunity the Longhorns might need to regain the momentum in the recruitment of Hill heading into the fall. Texas has done well in previous unofficial visits with Hill, showing him what the plans are for him heading up the linebacker corps. But Texas needs to keep making big moves during this official visit this weekend to keep pace with some of the other top schools in this recruitment.
While Texas could likely make its biggest statement in the race to land a commitment from Hill on the field this fall, Sark and special teams coordinator/tight ends coach Jeff Banks could use all the help they can get in this recruitment. With this recruitment likely boiling down to Texas, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma, this will be an old-school battle on the recruiting trail that could come down to the first signing period, if not longer.
At the moment, Texas A&M would have to be considered the pace setter in the recruitment of Hill. But Texas could flip that switch in a hurry with a successful official visit this weekend combined with a hot start on the field this fall. This is a recruitment that could have a lot more swings ahead as Hill constantly evaluates his top options among the trio of Texas, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma.
