Kyle Flood is unsung hero of the Texas football coaching staff
By Shane Black
Texas football offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Kyle Flood is quickly rising up the list as one of the most important assistant coaches not only on Steve Sarkisian’s staff but in the entire country.
Flood, who was the head coach at Rutgers from 2012-2015, followed Sarkisian from Alabama to Texas after serving as the Tide’s offensive line coach in 2019 and 2020.
Flood has proven to be an absolute ringer on the recruiting trail as he looks to rebuild a Longhorn offensive line unit that has seemingly struggled over the last decade. He led the charge in landing the number one offensive line class in 2022. The Longhorns brought in seven freshman offensive linemen including two five-stars.
On Sunday, Flood and the Longhorns landed five offensive recruits in the 2023 cycle including four offensive linemen.
Three-star Connor Stroh kicked off the June 26 commitments with his announcement via Twitter.
Stroh, a Frisco, TX, native, stands at 6-foot-6, 345-pounds. He is the 43rd-ranked offensive tackle in the nation.

Arlington, TX, native Andre Cojoe announced his commitment hours later. Cojoe is listed at 6-foot-6, 330 pounds. He is the 59th-ranked interior offensive lineman in the class of 2023.
Jaydon Chatman was the third offensive lineman to commit to the University of Texas on Sunday. The Harker Heights, TX, native stands at 6-foot-4, 300 pounds. He is the ninth-ranked interior offensive lineman in the class.
Finally, Trevor Goosby capped off one of the most successful days in Texas recruiting under Steve Sarkisian with his pledge late Sunday night.
Goosby flipped his commitment from TCU to the Longhorns after visiting the Forty Acres this past weekend. The Melissa, TX, native stands at 6-foot-6, 280-pounds. He is ranked as the 43rd offensive tackle in the class.
What Flood did on Sunday was stack some giant bodies in what is already a very deep offensive line room. Stroh, Cojoe, Chatman, and Goosby are absolute maulers with fantastic size for the collegiate game. Although none of them are top-100 players in the class, their presence will be just as valuable as Coach Flood has proven to be an elite developer of talent.
The way to build a successful offensive line unit is to add as much depth as possible. It is one of the few positions where throwing a lot of bodies at the problem can be a viable solution.
With the talent Coach Flood and Texas brought in on the offensive line in the 2022 class, none of these recent commits will be pressured into early playing time.
Stroh, Cojoe, Chatman, Goosby, and wide receiver Jonah Wilson bumped the 2023 Texas class to 14 total commits. The Horns are currently ranked fifth nationally in the 2023 team recruiting rankings and should continue to see quality players join this class.
