A massive last few days for second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and the 2023 Texas football recruiting class has culminated in one of the hottest streaks any program in the country has seen on the trail of late. Texas has landed seven commitments in the 2023 class since June 23. And that included a whopping five commitments just in the afternoon and night of June 26.

After landing essentially half the commitments in the 2023 class in the span of less than one week, Texas will be looking to get most of the pieces in place that this staff wants in the mix before the 2022 season begins. Texas could dramatically move up the timeline for when the bulk of the 2023 class will come together.

Moreover, what sparked this huge run on the recruiting trail for the Longhorns in the 2023 class was the commitment of the elite five-star Isidore Newman quarterback Arch Manning back on June 23. That sparked a wave of commitments for the Longhorns 2023 class that would carry through the end of the day on June 26.

Texas really mounted a big run on the recruiting trail to cap the last major official visit weekend of the spring. That rounded out with Texas landing five pledges in the 2023 class on June 26, all of which were on campus for official visits over the weekend.

Who’s up next for Texas football in the 2023 class after a huge weekend?

With this in mind, here’s a look at a prediction of who the next commit could be in the Longhorns 2023 class after the historic run for Sark and this staff on the trail of late.

Derion Gullette, EDGE

One of the top priorities among edge rushers in the Longhorns 2023 class this summer is the highly touted four-star Marlin (TX) product Derion Gullette. The potential soon-to-be Teague transfer was on campus for his official visit to Texas over the weekend. He was one of the highest-rated defensive recruits visiting campus last weekend too.

Texas came into the weekend with at least a slight leg up on the competition among the top schools in the race to land a commitment from Gullette. And two recent expert 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions that were placed during the weekend indicate that Texas continues to set the pace in the recruitment of Gullette early this summer.

Both of these Crystal Ball Predictions came through with a pretty high level of confidence. And two forecasts that were placed by On3 in the last couple of days also project Gullette’s commitment to land with the Longhorns.

Texas is in a great spot for Gullette coming out of the weekend. Constant faith in Gullette’s ability and fit with this defense combined with a longstanding relationship with Derion and his camp have gotten the Longhorns to this point in this recruitment. The next few days will show us if Texas was able to start closing down this recruitment during the official visit last weekend.
