Texas football’s 2023 class cracks top 5 after massive recruiting weekend
A historic stretch on the trail for second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and the 2023 Texas football recruiting class saw a whopping five commitments join the mix on June 26 alone. Texas has also landed seven commitments dating back to June 23, when Sark added the elite five-star Isidore Newman quarterback Arch Manning.
And a lot of the commitments that have joined the mix since for Sark and the Longhorns staff in the 2023 class came at least partially as a result of the reverberations from the Arch pledge.
Before Arch’s commitment on June 23, Texas had seven commits in the 2023 class. Five of the seven commits joined the Longhorns (including two blue-chips) on June 26. The make-up of that group was four offensive linemen and one wide receiver.
Texas also added one blue-chip commit on June 25, with the surprise addition of the touted four-star Kahuku (HI) linebacker Liona Lefau.
If you go all the way back to June 13, Texas has managed to land commitments from nine recruits in the 2023 class over the span of less than two full weeks. Texas landed two tight end commits in the 2023 class in the last two weeks in three-star Mater Dei product Spencer Shannon and three-star Newman product Will Randle.
Texas football cracks the top 5 in the national class rankings largely thanks to 5-Star QB Arch Manning
Moreover, this incredibly hot stretch on the recruiting trail of late for Sark and his staff in the Longhorns 2023 class has dramatically boosted this group’s standing in the national class rankings. According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2023 Texas recruiting class now sits at No. 5 in the nation and in the top spot in the Big 12 ahead of the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
Of the 14 commits in the Longhorns 2023 class at the moment, there is one five-star recruit and eight four-stars. The rest of the group are three-stars, a few of which are definite candidates to watch to get that elusive blue-chip rating before the first signing period arrives for the 2023 cycle (i.e. Connor Stroh and Trevor Goosby).
If the Longhorns continue this hot streak on the recruiting trail, it’s not out of the question that the 2023 class could soon surpass the Clemson Tigers and Penn State Nittany Lions to crack the top three in the national composite rankings. Texas even landing one of their top targets in the 2023 class such as five-star DeSoto wide receiver Johntay Cook and/or four-star Edgewater (FL) running back Cedric Baxter Jr. could help this class crack the top three in the nation.
We’re truly seeing the impact that the seismic commitment of Arch will continue to have on the Longhorns in the 2023 class, and other future recruiting classes to come.
Texas just wrapped up another important official visit weekend in the last couple of days. That could see even more commits soon arrive for Sark and his staff in the Longhorns 2023 class as this hot streak on the trail continues.
