Following another big day on the recruiting trail for second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football program for the 2023 class, this staff is in a great position to challenge for the nation’s top spot in the class rankings. Texas rose up even further in the national class rankings for the 2023 recruiting cycle on June 27 after landing a surprising commitment from the elite five-star Westgate (LA) safety Derek Williams.

Getting a commitment from Williams is another massive win for Sark and his staff in the Longhorns 2023 class. Williams is the eighth commit to join the Longhorns 2023 class just since June 23. He was also the sixth commitment in roughly 24-30 hours for the Longhorns dating back to the conclusion of most of the official visits on campus last weekend on June 26.

Prior to landing a commitment from Williams to start the week, the Longhorns were still riding an incredible and historic hot streak on the recruiting trail. Texas cracked the top five ranked 2023 class in the nation in the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings coming out of the weekend.

And after landing Williams on June 27, Texas has now cracked the top three in the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings. With 15 commits now in the 2023 class, the Longhorns only rank behind the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Ohio State Buckeyes (in that order) among the top classes in the country.

Notre Dame currently has 15 commits in the 2023 class, with an average commitment ranking of 92.72. And Ohio State has 14 commits in the 2023 class, with an average commitment ranking of 94.12.

After landing Williams, Texas now has an average commitment ranking of 91.34. But there is still ample room for the Longhorns to continue to rise in the national class rankings in the next couple of weeks.

For example, Texas could technically have the top 2023 class in the nation if they’re able to haul in commitments from five-star DeSoto wide receiver Johntay Cook and/or four-star Edgewater (FL) running back Cedric Baxter Jr. But that would assume all else stays the same with the rest of the top-ranked 2023 recruiting classes in the nation.

We’re likely still going to see more activity on the recruiting trail for Sark and the Longhorns staff in the 2023 class in the next few days and/or weeks. The impact that the commitment of the top five-star Isidore Newman quarterback Arch Manning last week is still going to have shockwaves that last for the rest of the summer for the Longhorns in the 2023 class.

Of the 15 commits for Sark and the Longhorns in the 2023 class, two are five stars and eight other are four stars. Texas is currently one of four programs to have multiple five-star commits in their 2023 recruiting class.
