Derion Gullette, EDGE

A recruit that the Longhorns have all sorts of momentum with right now is the highly touted four-star Marlin (TX) (and potential soon-to-be Teague transfer) edge rusher/linebacker Derion Gullette. As another target of the Longhorns 2023 class that has long remained a key priority, Gullette has felt the love coming from this staff.

And that is something that could pay dividends for the Longhorns in the 2023 class as they look to address any potential depth issues at linebacker and edge rusher. Gullette will be a key part of the Longhorns’ quest to bolster their ability to rush the passer in this recruiting class.

Texas got even more reassurance of their standing in the race to land a commitment from Gullette by having a successful official visit last weekend to wrap up his summer trip schedule. If Gullette was a Texas lean before the official visit to Austin last weekend, then he is really favoring the Longhorns now.

It seems like there’s a good chance that Gullette could have a decision in store before the end of the summer. There’s no exact decision timeline that’s known yet for Gullette, but the end of July could be realistic.

Depending on what happens for the Longhorns in the 2023 class in terms of more potential commitments on the way this week, it wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if Gullette becomes the next blue-chip to join the mix.
