Cedric Baxter Jr., RB

While it seemed like new running backs coach Tashard Choice and the Longhorns were in line to land a commitment from the talented four-star Edgewater (FL) running back Cedric Baxter Jr. in the near future just a few days ago, we now have a decision timeline set. Baxter announced on his Twitter timeline this week that he will make his commitment on Aug. 10.

Texas is included in the four schools that Baxter will decide between on Aug. 10. The other three are the Texas A&M Aggies, Florida Gators, and Miami Hurricanes.

But this looks like it could boil down to a battle between Texas and Texas A&M to land a commitment from Baxter this summer. Texas hosted Baxter for the only official visit he’s taken so far this summer. And it would be surprising to see him take any other official visits this summer before making his decision on Aug. 10.

Baxter did take unofficials with Texas A&M and Florida since his official visit to Texas a few weeks ago, though. He also camped at Florida back on June 22.

It feels like Texas has made the biggest move by a wide margin in the race to land a commitment from Baxter this month. Texas getting a commitment from Arch only furthered the cause here in the recruitment of Baxter.

The combination of the relationship that Baxter has with Choice and the Longhorns staff along with the commitment from Arch makes Texas look like the frontrunner in this recruitment. There is a chance that one of Baxter’s other finalist schools makes a run at him in the next few weeks. But this one looks like Texas A&M and Florida trying to make up ground with Baxter before the Aug. 10 decision date.
