This insane run for second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff on the trail of late that saw the 2023 Texas football recruiting class more than double in size in the last week alone might not stop for the rest of the summer. Texas has caught fire on the recruiting trail since landing a commitment from the elite five-star Isidore Newman quarterback Arch Manning back on June 23.

Sark and the Longhorns staff were once just sitting at five commits in the 2023 class as recently as June 12. But Texas has now landed a whopping dozen commits in the last three weeks roughly. That includes a double-digit number of commits dating back to the massive June 23 commitment from the elite Louisiana signal-caller Arch.

Texas has also landed two five-star commits since Arch joined the 2023 class roughly one week ago. The two five-star commits that joined the Longhorns 2023 class in the last few days are the DeSoto wide receiver Johntay Cook and Westgate (LA) safety Derek Williams.

Led by QB Arch Manning, Texas football has the most 2023 five-star commits in the nation

The commitment of Williams arrived for the Longhorns back on June 27, coming just a few days after his official visit to Texas concluded. Landing Williams was a massive win for the Longhorns 2023 class as this program will now be getting a true staple in the secondary that Pete Kwiatkowski can build around for this level of the defense.

And then, Texas landed the top wideout target in the 2023 class with Cook announcing his commitment to the Longhorns on June 29. Cook was more of an apparent Texas lean than Williams in the last few months, but both are huge pieces in the 2023 class.

Moreover, Texas having these three five-star commits in the 2023 class puts this group in a class of their own in this regard. Texas now boasts the only 2023 recruiting class in the entire country that has three or more five-star commits in the mix.

The Alabama Crimson Tide, Ohio State Buckeyes, and USC Trojans all have two five-star commits for the 2023 class. Texas is the only school to have more than two five-star commits in the mix, though.

This is big for Sark and the Longhorns staff to have this many five-star commits in the 2023 class. And there could be more to come before the summer concludes. Texas is still in the running for roughly a half-dozen more five-star recruits in the 2023 class, namely including Denton-Ryan linebacker Anthony Hill, South Oak Cliff cornerback Malik Muhammad, and Arlington-Martin cornerback Javien Toviano.

It’s also worth noting that Texas hasn’t landed this many five-star commits in any recruiting class since the 2010 cycle. Texas landed a whopping five commits in the 2010 class that had that elusive five-star status, highlighted by defensive end Jackson Jeffcoat and linebacker Jordan Hicks.

According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2023 Texas recruiting class now ranks at No. 3 in the nation and in the top spot in the Big 12. The only two schools that rank above Texas in the national class rankings at the moment are Ohio State and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (in that order from bottom to top).
