There is nearly unlimited momentum it feels like for the 2023 Texas football recruiting class in the last week. Second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff are reaping the rewards that came thanks to landing a commitment from the elite five-star Isidore Newman quarterback Arch Manning back on June 23.

Since June 23, Sark and the Longhorns staff have now landed three five-star commits in the 2023 class. Texas has also more than doubled the size of the 2023 class in the last week alone.

And now, the Longhorns are looking to continue this wave of momentum into July. The particular area where Texas is trying to build out the 2023 class now lies on the defensive side of the ball. That is evident with some of the visits that the Longhorns added to the schedule for July, especially among defensive line targets of the 2023 class.

One of the latest additions to the visit schedule for July for defensive line coach Bo Davis and the Longhorns is the touted four-star Cy Woods DL Terrance Green. A report from Inside Texas on June 29 confirms that the Longhorns have Green scheduled for an unofficial visit to Austin in July.

This visit is set to come on the weekend of July 30.

This will be the second time Texas has hosted Green for an unofficial visit in Austin this summer. Texas also hosted Green in Austin for an unofficial visit back on June 16. That visit with Green a couple of weeks ago came as a bit of a surprise, but it was clearly welcome news for Davis and the Longhorns.

Green also recently included Texas in his top five schools, which he dropped on Twitter back on June 20. The other four schools that made it through in his top five on June 20 were the Oregon Ducks, Michigan State Spartans, Florida Gators, and Miami Hurricanes.

Texas is the only in-state school to make it through for Green’s top five, which could give them an edge in this recruitment heading into the fall. And if Texas is one of the frontrunners at the moment in the race to land a commitment from Green, it appears that there’s a realistic shot for Davis and the Longhorns to get him in the 2023 class by the fall.

Green did take official visits to Michigan State and Oregon in the last few weeks. And it wouldn’t surprise me if he took an official visit to Miami later this summer or in the months leading up to the first signing period.

Depending on how the decision timeline for Green shakes out this offseason, we could also see Texas getting him on the books for an official visit at some point in the fall.

Texas currently holds commitments from one true defensive lineman and one edge rusher in the 2023 class as of the morning of June 30. Those two commits along the defensive front in the 2023 class are four-star C.E. King DL Dylan Spencer and three-star South Oak Cliff EDGE Billy Walton.
