Malik Muhammad, CB

It seems like one of the top defensive targets of the Longhorns 2023 class that this staff has a ton of momentum with of late is the five-star South Oak Cliff cornerback Malik Muhammad.

Since his official visit to Texas on the weekend of June 17, Texas has seemingly struck every right chord they possibly could with Muhammad and his camp. But Texas needs to keep that momentum rolling on the recruiting trail with Muhammad for the rest of this month before he takes his official visit to College Station on the weekend of July 29.

Muhammad currently looks to be at least a slight Texas lean in the last few weeks since his official visit to Austin wrapped up. But we’ve seen head coach Jimbo Fisher and the Aggies shut the door on Texas’ momentum on the recruiting trail before. Cornerbacks coach Terry Joseph needs to continue to push the right buttons with Muhammad for the rest of the summer (at least once the dead period lifts later this month) to keep Texas A&M off the Longhorns’ tail.

There is clearly an undeniable wave of momentum in the Longhorns’ favor on the recruiting trail of late. Winning the race to land a commitment from Muhammad would undoubtedly continue this momentum in a way that adds more talent to a building elite 2023 class on this side of the ball.

The pieces are in place in this recruitment, though, for Texas to beat out the likes of Texas A&M and the Alabama Crimson Tide to land a commitment from Muhammad likely at least a few weeks before the start of the upcoming regular season.
