Anthony Hill, LB

The talk of the town of late among defensive targets of the Longhorns 2023 class is the elite five-star Denton-Ryan linebacker Anthony Hill. With the North Texas product boiling down his top list of finalist schools last week to just the Longhorns and Aggies, the finish close is drawing closer for Sark and special teams coordinator/tight ends coach Jeff Banks.

There is no doubt in my mind that Texas is making Hill one of their top priorities among any offer of the 2023 class this summer, if not the top priority overall. Now that Texas has commitments from the duo of Arch and Johntay in the 2023 class this summer, the coaching staff’s attention and resources can now turn to Hill.

Many believe Hill could be the top priority among 2023 recruits for Texas and Texas A&M at this point of the offseason. And given how Hill could be a real tone-setter for either 2023 class, it makes sense that he’s getting an incredible amount of attention on the recruiting trail of late from both coaching staffs.

Hill is scheduled to take an official visit to Texas A&M during that imperative final weekend of July. That will be an extremely important marker to watch on the recruiting timeline for Hill this summer. Knowing how far Texas was able to swing the pendulum of momentum in their favor during Hill’s official visit to Austin back on the weekend of June 24, it will be interesting to see what Texas A&M can do on their OV in a few weeks.

The key here for Texas is going to be maintaining this incredible wave of momentum through the rest of July to keep Hill’s interest and attention on the Forty Acres with a decision that could arrive well before the start of the upcoming regular season.

This is a recruiting battle that Texas has the ability to win, but it is also one that is at least going to carry through early August. Suppose Texas can make it through that late July official visit without too much momentum going to the Texas A&M side. In that case, an August commitment is very realistic for this top-ranked linebacker.
