The ever-increasing momentum for the 2023 Texas football recruiting class kept on building over the holiday weekend after landing a commitment from sizable and touted four-star Bergen Catholic (NJ) defensive lineman Sydir Mitchell. Texas moved the numbers in the 2023 class up to 18 commits by nabbing Mitchell on July 3.

That has also now more than tripled the size of the Longhorns 2023 class in the last three or four weeks alone. Going back to June 13, the Longhorns have landed more than a dozen more commits in the 2023 class.

What really sparked this wave of momentum for the Longhorns 2023 class was the commitment from the elite five-star Isidore Newman quarterback Arch Manning. Since landing that commitment from Arch back on June 23, Texas has also more than doubled the size of the 2023 class.

And it is looking like the momentum won’t be slowing down on the recruiting trail anytime soon for head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff. Texas is starting to get another key blue-chip defensive line target in sight for the 2023 class early this month.

Is Texas football now trending for 4-Star Alabama DL Hunter Osborne?

Four-star Hewitt-Trussville defensive lineman Hunter Osborne is starting to see some more traction with the Longhorns and defensive line coach Bo Davis this summer. In fact, there appears to be so much traction between the Texas staff and Osborne that Gerry Hamilton of On3/Inside Texas placed a forecast for his commitment to land with the Longhorns.

That forecast from Hamilton over the holiday weekend came with a moderate to high level of confidence, which is more than you could see regarding Texas’ chances to land Osborne just a few weeks ago.

The On3 recruiting prediction machine also gives Texas better than a 73 percent chance to land Osborne. That is a large uptick in the On3 RPM in favor of the Longhorns over other top schools in the race to land a commitment from Osborne such as the Tennessee Volunteers and Clemson Tigers.

Osborne revealed his top six finalist schools on social media back on May 13. But it’s looking like Texas, Tennessee, and Clemson are the top schools at this point of Osborne’s recruitment this summer.

Osborne only took official visits to that aforementioned trio of schools last month of Tennessee (June 24), Texas (June 17), and Clemson (June 3).

Moving forward, the top competition for Texas in the race to land a commitment from Osborne is likely going to be Tennessee. That is the closest school to home for Osborne among the trio that he officially visited last month. Clemson also appears to have lost some ground of late in this recruitment since Osborne’s official visit to campus concluded roughly one month ago.
