It’s clear that one of the most hyped-up new additions to the program this summer is the insanely fast and elusive former four-star Spearman (TX) athlete/wide receiver recruit Brenen Thompson. This incoming freshman wideout is very likely going to get a shot to make an immediate impact on this offense during the upcoming regular season.

Brenen is just too fast and electric in the open field to not get at least a few reps in the passing game in the initial weeks of the season. The fact that he’s also able to make a big impact on special teams means that it will be very difficult to keep Brenen off the field from the get-go this fall.

Another factor that will make it difficult to keep Brenen off the field right away this fall is the instant impression he’s making on the coaching staff. He’s reportedly one of the most focused players in all phases of the summer program for the Longhorns.

It’s pretty telling of the type of mindset and character that Brenen is bringing to the table for the Longhorns that he’s making this transition to life with the team so fast. From what we’re hearing, Thompson is in a rhythm as if he were an upperclassman in college. And he’s still in the midst of his first couple of months on campus.

Brenen continues to impress the coaching staff in summer conditioning, seven-on-seven work, and in the film room. This type of showing for Thompson this summer will put him in a position to get some prepared reps early this coming season.
