There will be a few critical factors at work for second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football program this fall that could really heighten the success on the field compared to last season. Texas will need to show ample strides on the field this fall to prove that this program is headed in the right direction under Sark and his staff.

A key factor that could really push the Longhorns to the next level in terms of success in the win column this fall is the bevy of NCAA Transfer Portal additions that will make an impact right away. That includes the likes of redshirt freshman quarterback Quinn Ewers, redshirt sophomore wide receiver Isaiah Neyor, redshirt sophomore defensive back Ryan Watts, and super-senior linebacker Diamonte Tucker-Dorsey, among others.

All told, the Longhorns nearly have a double-digit number of transfers that will be looking to make a mark for this program right away this fall.

It’s easy to see how Texas will be impacted so greatly by the transfer portal additions on this team in 2022. And this is something noticed by On3’s J.D. PicKell in an analysis of Texas’ outlook for the 2022 season.

How Quinn Ewers and the Texas football transfers could impact winning for the Horns in 2022

PicKell noted that all these Texas transfer meshing in a short span of time this year will be critical for this 2022 campaign to be a success for Sark and his staff. That specifically means that Texas is able to put the pieces together around the former Ohio State Buckeyes transfer signal caller Ewers.

PicKell also specifically pointed out the potential special connection in the passing game between Ewers and the former Wyoming Cowboys breakout wide receiver Neyor. If Ewers and Neyor can find chemistry right away this fall, that will help the rest of the transfer pieces mesh well for this team.

All in all, PicKell essentially implies that the ability for these Texas transfers to mesh and find their respective roles with the team this fall can be a real make-or-break factor in 2022. If Texas can find the right roles and get these transfers to contribute in a meaningful way out of the gates this fall, it’s hard to see how this team could realistically fall short of expectations.

The impact that these new Texas transfers will have on the team in 2022 is obviously heightened by the fact that one of the additions is Ewers. Texas landing one of the highest-rated quarterback recruits in the modern history of college football clearly raise the stakes in terms of him being a factor for this team’s success this fall.
