Texas football ranked as one of the five best jobs in the country
A lot of focus was brought on the Texas football program in the last 18 months in terms of how second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian will be able to rebuild this team essentially from the ground up. Sark and his staff seemingly didn’t get off to the ideal start in this rebuild last season.
We do have some signs of significant progress, though, in this rebuild in Year 2 of Sark’s tenure. Sark and the Longhorns staff have recruited about as well as you could ask for in the 2022 and 2023 classes since last fall. Texas landed a top-five ranked 2022 signing class in the nation.
And the Longhorns are well on the path to signing a top five or top three ranked 2023 recruiting classes in the country with the results we saw on the trail this summer.
Moreover, it’s looking like Sark and his staff are starting to maximize the resources afforded to them in this Longhorns program. This Texas program is definitely one with nearly unlimited resources, which tends to make this one of the destination head coaching jobs. That is the case despite some of the struggles on the field for the Longhorns in the last decade or so.
And the appeal of this head coaching job is something that was recognized in a ranking of the top coaching positions in the country by Brad Crawford of 247Sports on July 12. This 247Sports piece ranked Texas as the No. 5 head coaching job in the country ahead of the 2022 season.
Texas football ranked as a top 5 job in 2022 with Steve Sarkisian trending up
Here’s more on what this piece from Crawford of 247Sports had to say about ranking the Texas job at No. 5 for 2022.
"The nation’s richest program. Countless All-Americans and individual award winners. Recruiting expertise. Texas is old college football royalty and the Longhorns have been itching to get back to the top of the podium over the past decade and change. All the necessary keys to winning at an elite level are available to those in power at Texas and the program has spared no expense to do so. The Longhorns’ move to the SEC increases the pressure on Steve Sarkisian to win big."
This piece also mentioned that the future outlook for the Longhorns program is trending up. That is worth noting since Texas does appear to be headed in the right direction under Sark and his staff.
But with Texas ranked at No. 5, what remained among the top jobs in the country for 2022?
That left the best jobs in the country as the Alabama Crimson Tide, Georgia Bulldogs, Ohio State Buckeyes, and the LSU Tigers (in that order from top-to-bottom to round out the top five). Other significant jobs ranked in the top 10 on this list were the Oklahoma Sooners (No. 10), Texas A&M Aggies (No. 7), and USC Trojans (No. 6).
Texas finished up last season with a record of 5-7 (3-6 Big 12), missing out on bowl season for the first time since 2016. Sark and the Longhorns are set to open up the 2022 regular season on Sep. 3 at home against Louisiana-Monroe.
