As some Texas football players and head coach Steve Sarkisian took the stand at Big 12 Media Days on July 14, we got to see the mindset and some insights into the program this week. And the biggest star representing this Texas team at Big 12 Media Days this week was star junior running back Bijan Robinson.

Bijan spoke on a number of different topics, including his new running backs coach, some of his teammates, and the new additions to the program, among other subjects. On the matter of some of his new teammates, Bijan had an interesting take.

Speaking on the former Ohio State Buckeyes freshman transfer quarterback and potential Texas starter for the coming season Quinn Ewers, Bijan mentioned how he’s trying to take some of the pressure off the mind of his new teammate. Bijan noted that he tells him not to “worry about the media” and that he should feel like there is “no pressure” on his mind.

Texas football star RB Bijan Robinson has some noteworthy advice for Quinn Ewers

Basically, Bijan is trying to get Ewers in a mindset where he’s blocking out all the outside noise so he can focus solely on getting his mind and body right for the season ahead. And there is some truth to the advice that Bijan is trying to give Ewers this offseason.

Ewers is going to have a lot of pressure on his shoulders right away this fall if he is named the starting quarterback over rising junior Hudson Card in fall camp. Bijan is a star in his supporting cast on this offense that can help take some of the pressure off Ewers’ shoulders if this unit is balanced and effective this coming season.

It’s also important to note the advice that Bijan gave to Ewers here regarding his mindset on and off the field as well as inside and away from the film room. Bijan reportedly told Ewers to “focus on the playbook, yourself as a person, and everything will take care of itself”.

All in all, this is a ploy from Bijan to just have Ewers have a smooth transition into this program this offseason. Given some of the struggles that Ewers apparently faced in his transition to the Ohio State program last fall, this all makes sense.

Texas finished up last season with a record of 5-7 (3-6 Big 12), missing out on bowl season for the first time since 2016. Bijan, Ewers, and the Longhorns are set to open up the regular season on Sep. 3 against Louisiana-Monroe.
