Malik Muhammad, CB

The nearest decision that is clearly worth watching for the Longhorns faithful late this summer on the recruiting trail will come from the elite five-star South Oak Cliff cornerback Malik Muhammad. This Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex product announced on social media earlier this week that he has a scheduled decision in place for July 20.

And with Texas already holding momentum in the race to land a commitment from Muhammad coming out of his official visit to Austin last month, this looks like another recruitment that could be the Longhorns’ to lose. Granted, it’s hard to completely count out the Crimson Tide in this one.

If there is some competition for the Longhorns on the recruiting trail at this point for Muhammad, it would likely be coming from Alabama and not Texas A&M.

This is yet another case where a key target of the Longhorns 2023 class has multiple forecasts in place projecting his commitment to Texas. A trio of expert 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions along with a couple of analyst forecasts from On3 tab Muhammad as a pretty heavy Texas lean at this point.

I would clearly name Texas the favorite in this recruitment. And if Texas is able to seal the deal and land Muhammad’s decision next week, that could go a long way to start to round out the defensive back big board for the 2023 cycle.

It would be interesting to see where Texas stand with fellow five-star cornerback and Arlington-Martin product Javien Toviano if Muhammad commits to the Longhorns on July 20.
