Derion Gullette, EDGE

A top priority for the Longhorns among edge rushers for the 2023 class is the highly touted four-star Marlin (TX) product Derion Gullette. Texas doesn’t have a true edge rusher committed in the 2023 class at the moment that is nearly as highly rated as Gullette.

In fact, the lone edge rusher commit in the Longhorns 2023 class at the moment is the former Oklahoma State Cowboys pledge and three-star South Oak Cliff product Billy Walton.

It’s hard to overstate how important landing a commitment from Gullette could be for the Longhorns 2023 class. And it’s not unreasonable to expect a decision to come down from Gullette in the next few weeks.

If Gullette announces his commitment any later than the end of fall camp for the Longhorns, it would really surprise me.

There are now two expert 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions for Gullette projecting his commitment to Texas. And there are multiple other forecasts projecting Gullette’s commitment to the Longhorns in the near future (i.e. Rivals and On3).

Moreover, Gullette recently released his top three finalist schools, which includes Texas, Texas A&M, and the Ohio State Buckeyes. Gullette is anticipated to take a visit to College Station to see Texas A&M on the last weekend of July.

If Texas can make it through that visit for Gullette to College Station on the final weekend of the month with momentum in their favor still, I would fully expect a decision from Gullette very soon after. We will continue to monitor any developments that come about in this recruitment in the near future as a decision should be close for Gullette.
