1. Bryce Young, Alabama

By far the best quarterback that the Longhorns will face during the regular season goes without saying. Texas will face the reigning Heisman Trophy winner and superstar junior Alabama quarterback Bryce Young in the second week of the regular season.

That won’t give Kwiatkowski and the Longhorns’ defensive staff much time to prepare for Young and this high-powered Alabama offense early in the regular season slate.

Young put up some insane numbers last fall on his way to winning the Heisman Trophy. He registered nearly 4,900 passing yards on a 67 completion percentage, 10.0 adjusted yards per passing attempt, 47 passing touchdowns, three rushing touchdowns, just seven picks, and a sparkling 167.5 passer efficiency rating.

Young was able to do all that while just being in his first full season as Alabama’s starting quarterback. And given some of the experience returning along the offensive line and in the backfield this year, Young could get even better in 2022.

The main question mark for Young and the Crimson Tide passing game this fall will be overcoming losses at the wide receiver position. While Alabama surely has plenty of talent in the receiving corps this year between the likes of Georgia transfer Jermaine Burton, Louisville transfer Tyler Harrell, and former five-star recruit/sophomore Ja’Corey Brooks, we can’t overlook some of the losses for this team at the position.

Alabama lost their two 1,000-yard wide receivers from last season, Jameson Williams and John Metchie, to the NFL. Can Young and this newly loaded receiving corps overcome that to reach the same heights, or even greater heights, this fall?
