Anthony Hill, LB

We’ve talked often this summer about how the elite five-star Denton-Ryan linebacker Anthony Hill is the top priority among uncommitted recruits on the board for the Longhorns 2023 class. After Texas hauled in commitments from the duo of Arch and Cook last month, Hill likely became the top target on the big board (at least among in-state prospects) for the Longhorns 2023 class.

Hill’s recruitment has turned into a constant back and forth on the recruiting trail between the Longhorns and Aggies. Anytime it seems like Texas gets the edge on Texas A&M, or vice versa, the pendulum then swings in the other direction just a few weeks later.

That seemed to be the case when Hill had a successful official visit to Austin to see Texas late last month. Texas looked to have a lot of momentum in this recruitment in the couple of weeks that followed Hill’s June 24 official visit to Austin.

But Texas A&M might have already pulled back even in pursuit of Hill.

Moreover, all eyes are going to be on the official visit that Hill has scheduled to see College Station at the end of this month. He will be one of multiple key Texas targets that will be on campus to see Texas A&M on the final weekend of July.

All in all, if Texas can still hold even with Texas A&M (at minimum) through the end of his official visit to College Station, then the Longhorns will be in a good spot for Hill heading into the fall. If I had to choose today, I would still give Texas the slight edge as the pacesetter in this recruitment. We will continue to monitor if that holds true throughout the next six or eight weeks.
