247Sports analyst pegs Quinn Ewers as the starter for Texas football
We are now just a few weeks away from the start of fall camp for second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football program. Texas is set to get underway in fall camp on Aug. 4, leaving less than three weeks until the festivities begin on the Forty Acres.
And one of the overarching storylines for the Longhorns heading into fall camp is the looming quarterback competition. It seems like we can’t talk about it enough, but the Longhorns will have a decisive quarterback competition on their hands that might not take long to figure out.
From the tone that Sark was speaking with at Big 12 Media Days last week, it sounds like he’s looking to have a starter named much earlier in fall camp than he had last year. That means we will know, between redshirt freshman Quinn Ewers and junior Hudson Card, who the starting quarterback will potentially is less than one month from now.
Sark essentially straight up said at Big 12 Media Days that it “won’t take as long as last fall” to find the next starting quarterback. And while he reiterated at media days that he and his staff hadn’t made a firm decision on the quarterback competition as of yet, there are signs that might not be the case.
If Sark and his staff are planning on naming a starter earlier in fall camp than last offseason, then there is some strategy in place as of now that clearly benefits one quarterback over the other.
The sentiment that is seemingly being echoed around the college football media landscape ahead of fall camp is that Ewers is the favorite to win the starting job.
247Sports’ Josh Pate tabs Quinn Ewers as the likely starter for Texas football this fall
Further proof of that came courtesy of Josh Pate of “The Late Kick with Josh Pate” on 247Sports this week. Pate noted that he essentially thinks Ewers is already slated to be the starting quarterback whenever Sark announces during fall camp.
Pate is not the only voice around the media landscape echoing this sentiment either.
JD PicKell of On3 also implied that Ewers is already the favorite to win the quarterback competition over Card this fall.
We don’t know for sure yet, but it feels like the momentum continues to trend in Ewers’ favor in this quarterback competition over Card. As more information comes out about the looming quarterback competition for fall camp, we will continue to keep you updated.
Texas is roughly two and a half weeks away from starting fall camp, beginning on Aug. 4. And then, Sark and the Longhorns will open up the regular season slate on Sep. 3 at home against Louisiana-Monroe.
