Running back

Starter: Bijan Robinson

Backup: Roschon Johnson OR Keilan Robinson

The title of best position group for the Longhorns in 2022 either belongs to the wide receivers or running backs. I would have to give the edge here to the running back room thanks to the punch that this group gave to the offense, despite some of the struggles in Big 12 play, last season.

The Texas running back room is led by a potential Heisman finalist and first-round 2023 NFL Draft pick in the star junior Bijan Robinson. Bijan is the catalyst that will set the tone for this offense in 2022.

He will do a little bit of everything for Texas as Bijan is one of the most potent and dynamic skill position players in the entire country. As long as Bijan is able to stay healthy throughout the 2022 season, he should be able to have his best season in college to date.

Moreover, behind Bijan will be the thunder and lightning duo of senior Roschon Johnson and the speedy redshirt junior Keilan Robinson. Despite often being overshadowed by Bijan in the Texas backfield, the duo of Roschon and Keilan shouldn’t be undervalued.

These two still combined for more than 1,000 total yards from scrimmage and eight total touchdowns last season. Sark will be able to use Keilan’s speed and acceleration by getting him the ball out in space and on delayed hand-offs out of the backfield. Meanwhile, Roschon is a versatile back that take snaps as the quarterback (as he is a former converted quarterback), get the ball as a receiver out of the backfield, and run people over on designed hand-offs between the tackles.

The potency of Texas’ running back room is also highlighted by the fact that rushers as talented as sophomore Jonathon Brooks and freshman Jaydon Blue will be fourth and fifth on the depth chart at the position this fall.
