The next scheduled commitment among top targets of the Longhorns 2023 class is the four-star Edgewater (FL) running back Cedric Baxter Jr., who is set to decide on Aug. 10. Baxter set this decision date by announcing the Aug. 10 commitment on social media a few weeks ago.

And it’s hard to say that there are any material events that have transpired in the last few weeks that have changed the minds of most people in the recruiting industry to think he will commit to anyone but Texas. Baxter still appears to be a Texas lean as of late July.

None of the recent visits Baxter took since last month likely shifted momentum away from Texas. That at least appears to be the case since Baxter had his successful official visit to Austin back on June 10.

Texas could round out the running back recruiting in the 2023 class with a bang by landing a commitment from Baxter next month. That would give new running backs coach Tashard Choice and the Longhorns two touted blue-chip commits at the position in the 2023 class.

The other running back commit in the Longhorns 2023 class at the moment is the four-star DeSoto product Tre Wisner.

It also looks as if a commitment from Baxter likely won’t shake the status of the pledge of Wisner in the Longhorns 2023 class.

This would be an ideal situation for the Longhorns to pull in commitments from both Wisner and Baxter at the running back position heading into the first signing day.

Some other schools to watch ahead of Baxter’s Aug. 10 decision are the Miami Hurricanes, Florida Gators, and Texas A&M. Miami and Florida appear to be pushing the hardest to try and get Baxter’s interests away from Texas before he announces his commitment next month.
