Javien Toviano, CB

Texas made it a priority to make a big move with the five-star Arlington-Martin cornerback Javien Toviano heading into the fall. And that’s exactly what Texas looks primed to do ahead of the start of fall camp on Aug. 4.

Cornerbacks coach Terry Joseph and the Longhorns are even likely set to host Toviano for a visit during the July BBQ, which comes before the start of fall camp.

If Texas does get Toviano on the books for a visit next weekend for the July BBQ, that could be a good opportunity for this staff to begin the process of trying to close down this recruitment. Momentum has swung back and forth for Texas in the race to land a commitment from Toviano for as long as we can remember.

Texas has seemed like the leader among Toviano’s top schools at multiple different timeframes in the last year or two. But we’re getting close to the time when Texas needs to have momentum on their side when Toviano draws closer to making a decision.

Timing is really going to be the emphasis for this recruitment moving forward. Toviano looks to be smart with the way he moves, and Texas will need to make sure they have his full interest when it comes to decision time for him and his camp.

I would expect that Texas’ staff continues to make Toviano a top priority heading into the fall. And if Texas can get this visit locked in with Toviano for the July BBQ next weekend, that would be a good first step to try and close in on his commitment.

The top competition moving forward for the Longhorns in the race to land a commitment from Toviano looks to be the Texas A&M Aggies.

At the moment, though, I would still give Texas at least a slight edge over the Aggies among Toviano’s top schools.
