Predicting every remaining 5-Star defensive 2023 commit for Texas football
Anthony Hill, LB
While Toviano is a key priority for the Longhorns staff in the 2023 class heading into the fall, the clear-cut top target for this group is the five-star Denton-Ryan linebacker Anthony Hill. Similar to the recruitment of Toviano, it looks like the race to land a commitment from Hill is going to boil down to a battle on the trail between Texas and Texas A&M.
Also similar to the recruitment of Toviano, it seems as if Texas holds the momentum at the moment with Hill over the Aggies. Texas hosted Hill for an important official visit last month, which seemingly made a big impression on him and his camp.
Texas continues to push a lot of the right buttons in this recruitment as we move closer to a potential late summer or early fall decision from Hill.
But the pendulum of momentum in the recruitment of Hill looks like it could swing back in Texas A&M’s favor pretty soon here. Texas A&M is set to host Hill on a key unofficial visit next weekend, which will be his first since narrowing down his group of top schools to just the Longhorns and Aggies.
This is another situation where the Longhorns will need to not only continue to show progress on the recruiting trail in the 2023 class to keep making a big move with Hill, but also show progress on the field this fall. Texas must show that this defense is headed in the right direction under Pete Kwiatkowski in order to keep Hill from committing to the Aggies in the next few months.
It might not be out of the question to call Hill the top priority for both the Longhorns and Aggies heading into the fall. If that is the case, we could be in line to witness quite the back and forth on the recruiting trail between these two schools in the weeks and months to come.
