A common consideration of late for some of the lower level Power Five and notable Group of Five head coaching job openings is the second-year Texas special teams coordinator/tight ends coach Jeff Banks. This recruiting ace and former Alabama assistant Banks is definitely one of the key cogs on this Texas coaching staff.

Banks has found success recruiting and developing skill position talent and special teams units for well over a decade now. And to say that he’s only found success recruiting at the skill positions would be doing a disservice to Banks. He’s a true ace in the hole for Sark and the Longhorns on the recruiting trail.

And the fact that Banks has already found success recruiting, developing, and coordinating at the college ranks means that he checks a lot of the boxes that prospective schools look for out of head coaching candidates.

Since this list only considers the Texas coaches that have yet to hold a Division 1 NCAA head coaching job to date, Banks is clearly a prime candidate. In fact, I would likely name Banks as the most likely candidate to continue to get courted for other head coaching jobs in the next couple of years.

But it’s worth noting that Banks was courted for multiple head coaching jobs in the past, including since his time at Texas began last offseason. Yet, Banks is still here. He’s committed to building the Longhorns up both in terms of developing the current players on the roster and continuing to recruit at a high level.

Banks might continue to get courted for some other notable head coaching jobs in the near future. But he looks committed to Sark and the Longhorns.
