Texas football projected to face Miami in 2022 Cheez-It Bowl
The preseason projections for the Texas football program heading into the 2022 season have poured in over the course of the last couple of months. And with the start of fall camp now roughly one week away (specifically starting on Aug. 4), the anticipation is beginning to build for the season ahead for the Texas faithful.
And one key part of the preseason projections for head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns for the upcoming 2022 campaign lies with bowl season. Since Texas missed out on bowl season last fall, it’s imperative to set the proper expectations for the 2022 campaign.
Texas will be realistically looking to win at least eight or nine games, especially if you include the postseason, this fall. But considering how Texas is the odds-on preseason favorite to win the Big 12 Title in 2022, it wouldn’t be too surprising to see Sark and this squad push that mark at least a little bit higher.
Granted, it does still seem a bit outlandish that Texas is the odds-on favorite in the preseason to win the Big 12 Championship by a pretty sizable margin.

Moreover, bowl projections for the Longhorns this fall do seem to be in line with realistic expectations during the preseason. This is evident in a recent bowl projection from College Football News on July 27, which slots the Longhorns in the Cheez-It Bowl for 2022.
College Football News projects the Longhorns to face new head coach Mario Cristobal and the Miami Hurricanes out of the ACC in the Cheez-It Bowl.
If Sark and the Longhorns were to see this become a reality this fall, it would be the first time that Texas has even played in the Cheez-It Bowl.
But this wouldn’t necessarily be the worst thing as the Cheez-It Bowl is usually the third or fourth bowl game in the pecking order for the Big 12. That could peg Texas as a top three team in the Big 12 standings at the conclusion of the regular season.
Texas finished up last season with a record of 5-7 (3-6 Big 12), missing out on bowl season for the first time since 2016. Sark and the Longhorns open up the 2022 regular season on Sep. 3 at home against Louisiana-Monroe.
