There were definitely some notable targets of the Longhorns 2024 class that were worth watching on campus this week for the July BBQ. In fact, most of the uncommitted recruits that visited Texas for the July BBQ this week were targets of the 2024 class.

One of the more talented and potent visiting 2024 recruits on campus this week in Austin was the touted four-star Duncanville athlete/defensive back Ka’Davion Dotson. This was the third time for Dotson visiting Austin unofficially in 2022.

He’s spent plenty of time around Austin in the last six months or so, which is a great sign for the Longhorns early on in this recruitment.

Moreover, Texas is scorching hot of late in terms of recruiting in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Sark and the Longhorns staff also had a big win in terms of recruiting at Duncanville High School in particular in the 2022 class by landing a commitment from three-star offensive tackle Cam Williams.

That could be one sign that Texas’ efforts recruiting out of the DFW Metroplex are starting to pay off. And it goes without saying that key recruits such as Dotson are noticing.

Another factor that is clearly helping Texas in the race to land a commitment from Dotson early on is the feedback the staff is apparently getting coming out of the July BBQ visit for him and his camp. Texas spent some individual time prioritizing the recruitment of this blue-chip defensive back Dotson this week. Cornerbacks coach Terry Joseph is doing a nice job building this relationship, and it could pay off for Texas in the next six or eight months.

It doesn’t look like a decision from Dotson is around the corner. But building these early relationships will help make these recruitments much easier to close out come next offseason, especially if Texas finds heightened success on the field this fall.
