Another key target of the Longhorns 2024 class that had a successful unofficial visit to Austin this week for the July BBQ was the rising San Antonio-Veterans Memorial running back James Peoples. For the second time in the last two months, Peoples made his way to campus to visit Austin unofficially.

This relationship continues to burgeon between Peoples and new running backs coach Tashard Choice. This just goes to show how much of a priority Peoples is for Texas at the running back position in the 2024 class early on.

What also helped Texas during this unofficial visit with Peoples this week was the fact that he got to watch Choice and the Longhorns staff work with top running backs in summer workouts/on-field practice such as star junior Bijan Robinson and senior Roschon Johnson. This apparently made a big impact on Peoples just getting to see the connection that Choice had with the likes of Bijan and Roschon, among others.

This is definitely a point in Peoples’ recruitment when Texas needs to take advantage of his proximity to Austin and how much he looks up to Choice and these Horns running backs. Peoples has visited a number of other high-profile and in-state schools pursuing him on the recruiting trail this summer including the Ohio State Buckeyes, Michigan State Spartans, TCU Horned Frogs, and Houston Cougars.

Peoples is also reportedly in line for a visit with head coach Dana Holgorsen and the Cougars in the near future following the conclusion of his unofficial visit to Austin.
